So just what is morally wrong with phishing? Well to be honest any thing that is illegal and likely to cause harm to others should be considered as being morally wrong. Unfortunately there are a lot of people in the world today who do not have the same high set of principles and morals that others have and are willing to get what they can without worrying about the consequences.

In fact in recent years there has been much discussion going on with regard to phishing. So much so that companies such as Microsoft feel that the US Government should produce a federal privacy law. This law would then require those that hold your personal data to inform you of any changes which take place within the company’s own privacy policies. They should also be made to inform their clients if some one has been able to gain access to this information or it has been lost. Plus it was also felt by Microsoft that consumers should have the right to know and be able to see certain information which these companies hold.

Microsoft felt that it is important that those companies which have hold of other people’s personal information should meet certain requirements (which will be a national standard set). These requirements would then prove to others that they have met and taken reasonable steps in order to prevent others from gaining access to such information whether it being through hacking or the use of viruses etc., in order to gain the information that they hold.

Certainly when it comes to phishing this has become an extremely emotional subject in recent years and if we can find ways of preventing it from happening in the future it will probably save a lot of people a lot of heartache. It will also help to ensure that those people who have no morals can not be allowed to get away with causing such havoc in people’s lives in the futures. So at the end of the day what is morally wrong with phishing is quite simply that it harms others and that a set of ethics needs to be produced to which all owners of websites must adhere to in the future.
